This well known view captures a flotilla of sailing dinghies at Stoke Sailing Club; the large russet sail of the sailing barge in the distance is heading towards Pin Mill on the river Orwell.
Edward (known as "Ted") Gentry is well known in Suffolk as both an artist and art teacher, having taught firstly at the Royal Hospital School, Holbrook and latterly as the Head of Art at St Joseph's College, Ipswich. He was educated at Woolverstone Hall (now Ipswich High School) which is situated a little way downriver from this very view. He went on to study Physical Education and Art at Carnegie College, Leeds and subsequently completed an Art History Degree. He is a member and has regularly exhibited at the Ipswich Art Club.
