This delicately coloured view of the River Arun is typical of Rushton's picturesque watercolours of the English Countryside.
George Rushton was born in Birmingham and studied there at the City Art School. From 1906-1929 he was the head of the Ipswich School of Art which is considered to be its hey-day producing many fine artists, most notably, Leonard Russell Squirrell (1893-1979). After retirement, he moved to Didcot, Berkshire but the pull of East Anglia brought him back to Suffolk and he spent his final years in Belstead, near Ipswich.
He was a member of the Ipswich Art Club, the R.I, R.B.A. and R.B.S.A.
